Making Technology Work For You In Your Home

  • Educate yourself. Be an active user of the social media your kids are using. At a minimum, be familiar enough to talk with them about using apps appropriately and safely.!
  • Set family groundrules. Based on your family values & priorities, work with your kids to come with social media guidelines!
  • Discuss digital citizenship. Talk with your kids about how to use technology safely, kindly, appropriately, and productively. (Common Sense and A Platform for Good had great examples with more detail.)!
  • Keep the conversation going. New apps pop up all the time. Privacy settings & features change over time. Kids get older and more mature. Be sure to revisit your family's guidelines periodically and have your teen teach you how to use the hot, new app.
